As part of its commitment to supporting mathematics education researchers, BSRLM hosts a one-day annual event for new researchers. This is usually on the Friday before the Saturday conference in the summer. There is no charge for this event and new researchers are encouraged to attend and present their research.
‘New’ in the title is open to your interpretation: the day is intended for research students, post-doctorate researchers, newly appointed lecturers (perhaps those starting in research) and anyone who thinks ‘this sounds good’.
The programme for the New Researchers Day varies but the core elements are:
- A plenary from a mathematics education researcher, focusing on developments or methodological matters in the field
- A presentation or workshop on writing for the BSRLM Proceedings, and the BSRLM journal Research in Mathematics Education (RME)
- Opportunities for new researchers to present and to discuss their own work with other new researchers, as well as opportunities to network with one another
The most recent New Researchers’ day was a virtual event on 3rd July 2020. Details of the programme, together with the abstracts and pdf versions of the keynote presentations can be found here.
For face-to-face conferences, in order to facilitate attendance at the conference on the following day, attendees are encouraged to stay overnight. In case of need, the Leone Burton fund is used to cover overnight expenses up to £40 per person. More details can be found here or contact the Treasurer.
