RESEARCH IN MATHEMATICS EDUCATION

RESEARCH ASSISTANT

Call for applications

BSRLM’s journal, Research in Mathematics Education (RME), is seeking a new Editorial Assistant, to start work in January 2026.

The duties of the RME Editorial Assistant include: receiving new submissions and reviewing these for completion before passing them through to the editors; producing periodic summary reports on submitted papers; sending reminders of overdue actions to the editors; assisting in correspondence with the publisher, Editorial Board, Advisory Board, authors and reviewers; routine assistance in the processing of submissions and tracking through the production system; sending reject letters and processing editorial decisions; managing the online media presence of the journal and changes to the RME website which is hosted by T&F; providing report information for Board meetings and other editorial requests. The EA also coordinates the Board meetings and takes minutes. The RME Editorial Assistant role is well-suited to persons with strong organisational skills and/or graduate students in a related academic field. The RME Editorial Assistant is paid an honorarium of £260 per month, in return for up to 4 hours per week on average, at times by arrangement with the editors, in 47 weeks per year. The location of the RME Editorial Assistant is immaterial, conditional on face-to-face meetings with the Editors from time to time.

Applicants for the Research Assistant role should set out their expertise and experience in relation to the role in a short CV (max 4 pages) and a letter of application. These two documents should be sent to: rme@bsrlm.org.uk by midday on 21st November. Online interviews with the editors will be arranged shortly afterwards, if required.

Informal enquiries about the role may be sent to any of the editors:

Christian Bokhove c.bokhove@soton.ac.uk

Jodie Hunter J.Hunter1@massey.ac.nz

Eirini Geraniou e.geraniou@ucl.ac.uk

The BRSRLM Executive reserves the right to approach potential research assistants by invitation after the closing date for proposals.
